Welcome to the third episode of aelf Monthly Digest (September 2022). This report provides an overview of aelf’s development progress including tech and product updates, growth of the ecosystem, and events in the past month.
September witnesses another round of upgrades of aelf networks, including explorer, NightELF wallet extension, and contracts. With two system contracts upgraded and one new contract deployed, aelf network has strengthened its security and enriched its features. In terms of ecosystem growth, a total of 11 projects have been deployed onto aelf Testnet. These projects have met their hackathon prize-claiming standards and received their awards early this September.
Technology:
Contracts Upgrade: aelf team upgraded Token Contract (AElf.Contracts.MultiToken) and CrossChain Contract (AElf.Contracts.CrossChain), and deployed a new NFT Contract (AElf.Contracts.NFT). Change logs are as below:

Token Contract supports everyone to initiate “receive tokens” in cross-chain transfer. Of course, the sender will actually get the tokens
Add ExternalInfo property to TokenInfo, and tune related methods. This property will be used to store metadata of the related token, and it's useful to NFT Contract.
Add ‘Create Token Whitelist’, and methods AddAddressToCreateTokenWhiteList & RemoveAddressFromCreateTokenWhiteList to Token Contract. NFT Contract will be in this Whitelist, which means NFT Contract is permitted to create tokens via system Token Contract.
aelf Explorer v1.2.1 Upgrade: A further optimization of the explorer’s UI, highlighting the vital info, improving the display of transactions and blocks, and rearranging the layout of icons.
NightELF Wallet Extension: NightELF wallet extension added the event listener for locking and removing keypairs. Connected projects can get synchronized info in time and avoid transaction failure.
Ecosystem:
September 1st saw the prize-giving for the first batch of aelf hackathon winners where 11 projects were eligible for their awards, including AwakenSwap, NFT Forest, Energy8, EWELL, aelf Testnet Faucet, AElf.LatchBox, Willow, Blazer SDK, aelf-toolkit, aelf Tracker, and aelf Community Funding. As a growing number of projects are making steady progress toward full deployment, aelf has completed code reviews for some of them. Here we have selected 2 projects whose codes have been reviewed by the tech team. In future monthly digests, aelf will gradually bring the rest of these projects to our community.
NFT Forest is an NFT marketplace that connects artists, product project owners, and collectors. The vision is to enable everyone to explore and discover new values in this mysterious and colorful NFT Forest. The platform features low minting fees, flexible transactions, and personalization. At phase 1, it intends to realize the basic functions of an NFT marketplace, from buying, selling, and transferring to minting. Following its upcoming launch on aelf Mainnet, versatile functions will be gradually added, including customization, auction, blind box, and many more.
AElf.LatchBox is a fully decentralized one-stop solution for project creators to manage their tokens on aelf blockchain. It assists developers through the whole procedure of a token going into circulation, from creating and launching to vesting and distributing. As a launchpad, AElf.LatchBox not only streamlines the launching workflow but also protects investors from rug pulls. By now, the integration between LatchBox and NightElf Wallet has been completed on the Testnet and more features, like staking, shall be added in the future.
Events:
From the two hackathons that aelf has hosted, more than 20 excellent projects competed to the last stage and won awards of some kind. By September 1st, a total of 11 projects have met their claiming conditions and prizes have been distributed to the first batch of aelf ecosystem contributors.
To better support DApps and infrastructures in aelf ecosystem like NFT, cross-chain bridge, etc., aelf team upgraded multiple contracts, including Token Contract (AElf.Contracts.MultiToken) and CrossChain Contract (AElf.Contracts.CrossChain), and deployed a new NFT Contract (AElf.Contracts.NFT).
Right after the upgrade to v1.2.0, aelf explorer took the optimization one step further. The homepage now gives a more straightforward display of vital info and subpages have a concise yet informative structure that helps users find data easily.
Responding to the community’s needs, aelf team decided to extend the token swap portal for another 3 months till December 9, 2022. This site enables ELF holders to exchange their tokens from networks like Ethereum and BSC to aelf Mainnet.
Three months after the deployment of a new SideChain, tDVW, on aelf’s Testnet, aelf team decided to migrate all the projects and contracts from tDVV to tDVW. With this, SideChain tDVV on the Testnet was shut down and all future developments would be on SideChain tDVW.
aelf is a high-performance blockchain designed to support the development of Web3.0 and its explosion in the next 5 to 10 years. As a layer-1 network, aelf has incomparable processing speed which is even faster than most of the layer-2 projects. Built on cloud computing, aelf has a distributed network of nodes on various cloud data centers. Multiple tools like browser extensions, aelf blockchain explorer, wallet App, and SDKs have been built and open-sourced so that developers can easily build and contribute to aelf ecosystem.
With two hackathons successfully hosted and more stunning projects deployed onto the network, aelf is ready and well-equipped for the upcoming explosion. With the ambition set to drive the development of Web3.0 and promote the adoption of blockchain technology, aelf shall sustain long-term growth by consolidating the existing ecosystem and adding more interesting features at the same time.
