Welcome to the 13th edition of the aelf Monthly Digest, covering the developments and progress made in July 2023. This report provides an overview of the advancements in aelf’s technology, product updates, and ecosystem development during the past month.
Technology:
aelf Network Upgraded to v1.4.1
Early in July, aelf upgraded to v1.4.1 mainly to improve the network communication among nodes, by supporting Google Remote Procedure Call (gPRC) bidirectional streaming and enhancing the data transmission performance in this streaming.
aelf Network Upgraded to v1.5.0, Along with Various Contracts Upgrades and Deployment
Following the network v1.4.1 upgrade, aelf released a required version of v1.5.0 in July to support the deployments and upgrades of various contracts in order to fulfil aelf’s optimisations in several aspects. These optimisations were designed to enhance the overall performance of aelf’s network and infrastructure, while further solidifying aelf’s advantage as a platform that prioritizes user-friendliness and developer support.
With aelf v1.5.0, the enhancements were made from four major aspects: fee optimisations, FT and NFT issuance innovations, virtual address supports, and an optimised random number generation mechanism. Depending on your role, below are what you can expect to enjoy now with aelfv1.5.0:
For users:
The size fee significantly decreases from an average of 0.3 ELF to an estimated 0.003 ELF per transaction which is almost negligible. And the broadened fee exemption feature allows users holding just more than 10 Mainnet ELF to be exempted from paying 1 ELF worth of transaction fees daily, compared to the previous threshold where users holding more than 100 ELF can be exempted. Users can also conveniently pay transaction fees in multiple tokens while still experiencing the same level of efficiency as paying in ELF.
In addition, the enhanced support for virtual addresses with aelf v1.5.0 empowers the virtual address owners to vote and participate in aelf governance, which elevates the importance of virtual address accounts in aelf’s ecosystem.
For developers:
They now have much to gain from the upgraded network with regard to token creation and issuance. The previously required 10,000 ELF method fee for issuing tokens has been eliminated and the creation/issuance can be performed by virtual addresses also, making it more affordable and accessible for developers when it comes to token creation.
Along with the adoption of the Multitoken contract, token creation and issuance are also innovated where developers need to obtain SEED first for the creation and issuance of both FT and NFT. aelf v1.5.0 also added ProxyAccount contract to enable the more secure and flexible transfer of ownerships and authorities within aelf ecosystem, which is applicable when it comes to NFT item creation under NFT collection.
Furthermore, aelf now enables DApps to implement first and secondary fee delegations to cover the fees for their users, with wiggle room to customise their delegation conditions.
For both users and developers
aelf uses VRF (Verifiable Random Function) to optimise the random number generation in the AEDPoS consensus mechanism. Both developers and users can have a better experience involving random number generation.
aelf Boilerplate NuGet Packages Released
aelf Boilerplate has released a set of NuGet packages, which encompasses AElf.Tools v1.0.2, AElf.ContractDetector v1.0.0, and AElf.TestBase v1.0.0. The AElf.Tools package is primarily designed for tasks such as protobuf file recognition, source code generation, patch generation, and project building. The AElf.ContractDetector package serves the purpose of introducing aelf system contracts. Lastly, the AElf.TestBase package is primarily utilised for conducting unit tests during contract development.
Ecosystem:
Launch of Aelevate $150k Gaming Grant Program
The launch of Aelevate Gaming marks a significant milestone in aelf’s journey towards creating a vibrant ecosystem that extends beyond traditional blockchain applications. With the introduction of this gaming grant program, aelf pioneers the fusion of blockchain technology and gaming. The program will provide grants of up to US$150,000 per game studio to help developers build and launch their games on the aelf platform, with a focus on bringing existing gaming studios into our ecosystem. aelevate is open for all developers, providing support for all aspects of game development, including cutting-edge CA wallet integration, and will offer mentorship and networking opportunities to help developers connect with the aelf community.
Application is now open here and projects are chosen on a rolling basis.
Events:
In early July, marking the start of Q3 2023, aelf unveiled its comprehensive roadmap for the upcoming year. The roadmap encompassed various aspects, including the aelf network, infrastructures, ecosystem, and governance, outlining ambitious and practical plans for each.
Later in the same month, aelf executed two network upgrades, leading to the latest version 1.5.0. These upgrades, followed by major contract improvements and parameter adjustments, were strategically aimed at elevating the overall performance and capabilities of the aelf blockchain.
